An electric storage water heater provides hot water where there is no combi boiler. Full of water it is heavy, so the wall has to hold it and the connection must include a safety valve.

What the plumber checks before installing
- the wall: a 50–100 litre heater weighs 60–120 kg when full, so it is not usually hung on plasterboard;
- the spot: the heater needs service access and a cold water pipe nearby;
- power: a dedicated earthed socket or circuit rated for the heater's output;
- a hot water pipe to the points where you need it.
What the installation includes
- draining and removing the old heater (if needed);
- fitting the brackets and hanging the heater;
- connecting cold water through a safety valve and a stop valve, and running the hot outlet;
- filling the heater, checking for leaks and only then switching on the power.
Safety
The safety valve protects the heater from excess pressure: a heater is never fitted without one, and it must not be closed off or removed. A little water may come out of it while heating, which is normal, so a pipe from it is often run to the drain.
A gas water heater is a different job: only a specialist authorised to work with gas connects it. Running a new electrical circuit, if there is none, is an electrician's job.

What size heater should I choose?
For 1–2 people 50 litres is often enough; a family with a bath usually needs 80–100 litres. You can ask the plumber what suits your use.
Why is there no price?
Open sources give very few, outdated prices for water heater installation, and the price depends heavily on the wall, pipes and power supply. The plumber quotes from a photo or after an inspection.
