In a bathroom renovation, plumbing is done in two stages: at rough-in — pipes, drains and built-in parts; after tiling — the toilet, basin, mixers and shower. If everything is planned at the first stage, the second goes quickly and cleanly.

Stage 1 — before tiling
- removing the old fittings and pipes;
- new hot and cold water pipes to every point, each with its own valve;
- drain pipes at the right slope, and a floor drain if the shower is level with the floor;
- the wall-hung toilet frame and concealed mixers;
- pressure-testing every line before walls and floors are closed.
Stage 2 — after tiling
- fitting the toilet, basin or vanity unit, bath or shower enclosure;
- mixers, shower and towel rail;
- connecting the washing machine and water heater if they are in the bathroom;
- sealing and checking every point.
What to decide in advance
The plumber needs a list of fittings and ideally the models: wall-hung or floor toilet, bath or shower, concealed or exposed mixer, where the washing machine goes. With that the outlets are placed at the exact heights.
The price depends on the number of points and the type of fittings, so we do not publish a single price here; the plumber prepares an estimate after an inspection.
Frequently asked questions
Are the plumber and the tiler the same person?
Usually not. The plumber works before and after tiling, so agree the dates of both visits with both of them in advance.
Can the old pipes stay?
Not worth it in a renovation: if an old pipe leaks under the new tiles, everything has to be taken off again.
