Water underfloor heating installation in Tbilisi

In water underfloor heating, warm water from the boiler flows through pipes laid under the floor and heats the room evenly. It is fitted during a renovation, before the screed, so it matters that the technician plans the system in advance.

When underfloor heating makes sense

  • the flat or house is being fully renovated and the floor is redone;
  • you would rather not see radiators in the room;
  • the room has a high ceiling or large windows and a radiator barely warms the lower part;
  • the bathroom or kitchen has tiles and you want a warm floor.

What the system consists of

Insulation is laid on the floor and the pipe goes on top in loops, usually one per room. The loops meet at a manifold where the flow in each is adjusted; the manifold connects to the boiler through a mixing unit so that water going into the floor is not too hot.

The pipe is then covered with screed and the floor finish goes on top. Tiles conduct heat well; laminate and parquet must be rated for underfloor heating.

How the work goes

The technician works out the number of loops and the pipe spacing, lays the insulation, pipe and manifold, and pressure-tests the system, which must hold pressure before and while the screed is poured. The first start-up comes once the screed has cured enough.

Open sources quote very different prices per square metre for underfloor heating, and it is often unclear what they include. That is why we do not publish a single price here; the technician prepares an estimate based on the area and materials.

Frequently asked questions

Can underfloor heating and radiators be combined?

Yes, that is common: for example, underfloor heating in the bathroom and living room and radiators in the bedrooms, all running from one boiler.

Can it go on an old floor without removing the screed?

A water system usually needs a few centimetres of height for insulation and screed. The technician tells you during the inspection whether that is possible in your flat.
